Plein Air Materials Check Lists
You can use whichever materials you’d like. I have listed ideas and recommendations below. You can sit down with a drawing pad or a paint box, or you can stand up with a plein air box easel.
Oil/Acrylic Painting Check List
Plein Air Box Easel with Palette - Alternative: you could sit down with a Paint Box
Small Canvas, Canvas Board or Gessoed Cardboard (around 5”x7”, 6”x8” etc.)
Medium Cup for the Oderless Mineral Spirit/ Water Container like a large cup
Palette Knife (diamond shaped)
Hog Bristle (Synthetic or Genuine): 2 x Flats, Brights or Filberts in size 2-4, 2 x Small Rounds
Rags (old t-shirt is good) & Kitchen Roll
Oderless Mineral Spirit like Gamsol or Weber Turpenoid (Blue)/ Water in a bottle
Oil/ Acrylic Paints
Cadmium Lemon Hue, Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue, Pthalo Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Quinacridone, Magenta, Burnt Umber, Sap Green, Ivory Black, Titanium White
Drawing Checklist:
Drawing Pad: Sketching Paper
Pencils: 3B, 4B, 5B (Staedtler or Faber-Castell)
Staedtler Mars Eraser
Charlocal Drawing Checklist:
Charcoal (any kind soft or hard or charcoal pencils)
Charcoal Paper
Kneaded Eraser
Other useful things to bring:
Sunglasses, polarized
Viewcatcher
Sunscreen
Sunhat
